First time ever: Wheelchair users climb Mont Ventoux!

Last year, just after the summer, a technician from Invacare Netherlands came up with the idea to climb the Mont Ventoux in France (altitude of 1912 m) in a küschall wheelchair using the Alber e-motion. He got several people excited about this and a team was set up. The team consisted out of people from Invacarefrom several departments (technical department, customer service, sales, marketing) and also end users who are wheelchair sporters (wheelchairs basketball / tennis). The two brands küschall and Alber supported the team with products to make this challenge work. The team practiced, and raised money as this climb event was part of a fundraiser to fight cancer.

On September 1, over 1000 people climbed the Mont Ventoux, among which the 6 wheelchair users and 3 bikers from Invacare.  A support team for technical service and cheering also joined them. Since the weather conditions were so bad at the top (0 degrees Celsius and a wind force of 8-9), the organization decided to shorten the climb from 20 kilometers to 15 kilometers. Within 4.5 hours all 6 wheelchair users made it to the finish: a great achievement, since the road has steep slopes of over 10% incline. This was made possible thanks to the combination of training, willpower, and the support of the Alber e-motion system. A true example of how Invacare Netherlands is “Making Life’s Experiences Possible”!

Congratulations to all the team for this accomplishment!
